Laurel Homes redevelopment by the North Hempstead Housing Authority and Georgica Green Ventures consists of eight newly-constructed two-story modular buildings—created by Simplex and the SBJ Group—containing 74 modern, energy-efficient apartments, as well as a ninth community building with computers and laundry facilities. The transit-oriented complex is located within a short walk of the Long Island Railroad’s Roslyn Station and has been thoughtfully designed in accordance with energy efficiency and green building standards required for Energy Star and Enterprise Green Communities certifications. Efficiency features incorporated include a building envelope with high thermal performance, LED lighting, high-efficiency water heaters, and water-conserving fixtures.
